Off to Training!
Hey everyone, I am off to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) to participate in the chair and co-chair training for my appointment to the ANDPAC co-chair position this year and chairmanship next year.
Remember that this month is National Nutrition Month. Keep up the good work and eat your greens!
Eat More Fiber!
I am a big advocate of fiber. It is of primary importance in nutrition and health for so many preventative reasons! Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it is recommended that adults consume 14 grams of fiber in every 1,000 calories they take in? That translates to approximately 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams daily for men. So eat your fiber!
Here is a good news article on the health benefits of fiber in a diet.

An Avocado a Day to Keep the Doctor Away
The news is trending today on the health benefits of eating an avocado. Yes, avocados are high in fat; but that's the preferred heart healthy monounsaturated fat.
When a low-to-moderate fat diet is consumed, avocados can lower blood triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, while increasing our "good" HDL cholesterol. Plus avocados are loaded with fiber to help with weight loss, prevent cancer, and regulate blood sugar levels.
Packed with antioxidants avocados decrease the aging process and protect our vision. So enjoy some guacamole, add avocado to your salad, or top your sandwich with avocado slices today for a strong start to your New Year health goals.
Make Those New Year Resolutions Stick!
We all have them, our goals for the New Year. When making changes and starting new things, keep in mind these 3 things ...
It takes:
3 days to stop a craving
3 weeks to change a habit
3 months to rid a behavior
Good luck this year!
New Year's Tip from Nancy
Try this simple suggestion for managing your weight. To help curb your appetite, about 15 minutes prior to eating, drink a warm beverage such as green or black tea, herbal tea, coffee, hot water with lemon, or broth.
Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
I wanted to stop my lifelong struggle with food - to maintain a healthy weight, make wise food choices, and enjoy eating. Nancy took into consideration my medical concerns and goals to help me develop a health style that matched my life. Through education, encouragement and practical examples I learned to plan and shop for meals to meet my requirements for a fit life. Simple suggestions like bringing a snack supply with me everywhere I go changed my life (when I am starving, I make poor choices - fast food!). Sessions with Nancy helped me to maintain a 20 pound weight loss and improved the health of my entire family, too!
